A Republican precinct primary for the Sunset precinct is convened at Garland schoolhouse next Wednesday evening October 10 at 8 o clock for seven delegates to the County Convention in Brigham City on Saturday October 18 and to reorganize precinct officers. The Gar land community notes Republican bids from H M Holler of Manila precinct for County Clerk and Hurdett Smith of Gar land High for County Superintendent of Schools. Both are described as qualified and dedicated. Voters are reminded to register on October 6, 16, 16, or 36 at the Barland Globe office in Sunset Precinct.
A reader in Toowoomba Queensland Australia writes of Gar city and the 94th of July celebration with a picnic program by Elder W T Monk and another Utah man. The letter notes 36 saints and friends attending and praise for the Star Spangled Banner and Toowoomba hosts. It mentions gospel efforts and some opposition three months after leaving Garland. The second item promotes Chamberlain's Pain Balm as an antiseptic for wounds and bruises, claiming rapid healing and savings, with Riter Bros. Drug selling it.
A reader letters section runs a garbled plea about a girl connected to W. H. Miller and a late Friday event. The note mentions a gathering with G. Watt and a refrain about storks returning, with references to A. M. Borgstrom and an October 5 date.
The semi annual conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints moved Fast Day services to the first Sunday in October due to campaign rush and a funeral in Fielding. Joseph Jensen presided. WH Crandall directed the choir. Olof Johnson and Peter Bows administered the sacrament. New ward officers were named including Herbert B Foulger as ward clerk and Jimmen Thompson Petr Jensen and John J Shumway as acting ward teachers. Speakers included David Foulger Wm Preaton Louise Clark and others. Dressmaking ads note services at the end.
Impressive funeral services were held at Fielding ball at 3 p.m. for Ernest Wood the 18 month old son of Mr and Mrs David Wood who died of intermittent fever. A procession of twelve carriages accompanied the family to Fielding cemetery where the grave was dedicated. Speakers included E O Wilcox Bo W L Grover Lem Rogers J D Wood and D Manning. Bishop Henry Heas led the service with the ward choir singing.
Mrs Ora Bunsard of Brubaker Iowa recalls her two year old daughter suffering a pneumonia induced cough similar to whooping cough. After using Chamberlain's Cough Remedy the cough stopped and the child gained weight. The remedy is sold by Hiter Bros Drug Co.
On October 1 opening duck season drew crowds in Duckville. Hunters with single and double barrel guns, muzzle-loaders and automatic shotguns reported strong bird activity and a lively scene. Company No 1 lists Rest Mogr Mosiah Evans Agric Supt George Austin John Lant Dr M J Francke Walter Moer Abraham Gudmuosen Join Clarence Austin. they claim ducks faced expert management and even a surgeon’s touch. The group claimed 100 young ducks downed, with ample ammunition. Company No 2 including M A Boothe E V Schnider Z Rich and Jove Chrisman also reported success and feasting on the famed fat flyers.
Wm Hardy of Fielding died at home after a prolonged bout with typhoid fever. Funeral services were held at the ward hall on Tuesday afternoon with Bishop H Hess presiding and speakers including 4.1, Wood, J H Wilcox of Farmington, Undertaker Lindquist, Gus Hardy of Logan, F J Richards, andBp H Hews. The ward choir performed, and the deceased leaves a wife and three children. Relatives traveled from Newton, Farmington, Salt Lake City and Idaho for the funeral. Burial occurred at Fielding Cemetery.
A fae baby girl was born to the wife of Joseph Hawks Thursday evening. A. D. Broomhead returned home from Montpelier Sunday evening. Ed Gleason is reported to be sick. Some attended the funeral of Wm Hardy at Fielding Tuesday. The 2 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs A I Grover escaped choking on a plum pit. pit removed and child relieved. Many went to Salt Lake for conference. M A Anderson and Brigham workmen began Peter Jensen’s new residence.
