Agricultural Superintendent Geo Austin says recent rainfall, though harming hay and grain, greatly benefits beets. He estimates beets gain value far beyond $25,000, notes bright prospects after his Bear River Valley tour, and predicts a record beet harvest starting Sept. 25 with 800 tons daily demand when the factory runs.
Board meets August 21 with full attendance. City Council committee requests shovelers for Vet Creek to Water Lane. 6175 appropriated to gravel Duck Creek to Box Elder Creek. Rawlins Drainage District seeks county help for crossings. action deferred on several petitions. Grants 100 for Salt Creek culvert grade and graveling. bridge work ordered for Sulpher Creek. Liquor license for Mausher approved. Deweyville license granted. Tax STAT assistants ratified. Military Band finish room in Court House postponed for study. Grasshopper pay ordinance passed. Adjourned to September 4.
Peach Day in Brigham City has moved from Sept 12 to Sept 19. The BC Military Band and Commercial Club plan a Labor Day boost to Ogden and Peach Day events. Activities include ball games, dancing, vaudeville, and a frat class musical program with big ripe peaches for all. The Ladies Auxiliary offers 25-cent meals. hotels and restaurants open for the day. Relief Society to provide refreshments.
A Garland North column reports a pleasure trip by Ed Gleason Jesse Grover Mildred Grover Naomi Gleason and Hyrum Hall to Logan Canyon Bear Lake and back with fishing and travel through Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Local roads are being graveled and two area businesses may change hands soon. A fifteenth marriage license was issued in nearby Perry and Brigham City residents are listed among recent nuptials.
Garland manager W. P. Eaton schedules six closing contests across Lagoon Garland Malad City Riverside and Kept in September. Riverside plays at Athletic Park this week followed by Malad at home and Lagoon on September 2 against Bountiful Braves. Labor Day at Lagoon features a two game clash between Box Elder champions and Davis County champions with excursion rates offered. Final match on September 8 pitting Garland against Malad City at Malad City.
Globe editor notes a busy period with harvesting and threshing due next week led by James Joshus and Company. A Nevada visit by local residents is mentioned along with the birth of a girl to Willie Ottogary and wife in Elwood. Beet crops are strong at about 15 tons per acre while lucerne second crop was cut. rain spoiled some of the harvest.
A Garland Commercial Club committee proposes allowing the Town Building to be used for club and Town Board meetings in exchange for furnishing space. The board approved the plan noting furniture remains needed for the building. Trustee TH Edwards resigns as chairman of the Board of Health due to duties with The Utah Sugar Co. and Trustee Joseph Jansen is appointed to fill the vacancy.
A Garland Town Board meeting notes committees to review license exemptions for Hoonse, assess unlisted property taxes totaling 15 857.00, and explore securing a gravel pit. Trustees Jensen Vacausidoln Beorist and the town clerk are tasked with contacting the O8 City Co about widening a drain box along the railroad to drain the borrow pit.
Supt T H Edwards traveled to Salt Lake on Friday for official business. The Boothe Mercantile and Produce Co issue a memorandum book for customers promoting the Bates Shoe Co. Mrs W A Ray moved to Bull Lake with her children Don Minnie and Taul Ray, taking the train to reside there. This week brought heavy rain and mud, with widespread state rules in effect. Damages to wool and grain in the valley offset by beet crop gains.
