Fats and Leans Clash in Opening Baseball Game

Opening season game at the ball grounds Friday featured the Fats and Leans. The Leans won 26 to 21 after a lively, humorous contest with few errors. Lineup includes Arrangements, Lewis, Barber, Harris, Lant, Vanfleet, Boothe, Maher, Borns, Grover, Seerbit, Tally, and Gallons among others.

Debaters Head to Denver for Utah Regents Debate

Dale Parker Karl Hopkins and James Moss depart this afternoon to represent the University of Utah in the second annual debate against Denver university. The topic: Resolved that the interstate commerce commission should fix a maximum freight rate effective immediately pending court action. Parke, a noted debater and athlete, is a senior. Hopkins is also a senior. Moss is a junior. Parke is the son of Riverside residents Mr and Mrs W H Parke.

Farmington Couple Ties Knot in Ogden News

Marriage of George W. Green of Garland and Miss Virginia House of Ogden announced in Farmington on April 2. The couple met in Salt Lake City and have not yet returned. Miss Houtz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Houtz of 681 Twenty sixth Street, is highly esteemed in Ogden. The ceremony occurred March 1 and the Greens plan to reside in Ogden, with Mrs. Green visiting her parents briefly.

Garland Military Band Benefit Concert and Dance

The Garland Military Band held a benefit concert and dance at the Amusement Hall on Monday evening for Fred Rogers and Robert L. Wallace as they depart for missionary work April 11. Attendees enjoyed open air music, a formal program with solos, and a later dance. 70.50 was raised for the missionaries, plus a 45 purse for Rogers.

Four year old child dies of pneumonia in destitute family

The four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Oliver William died from pneumonia after a Wednesday morning illness. The family faces destitution and a subscription list circulated to aid them. Commercial Club Meeting in River Brow Block

The Garland Commercial Club held its regular monthly meeting in River Brow Block on Monday evening April 2. Weather and an entertainment reduced attendance. The Base Ball Committee reported no replies yet on arranging a Box Elder County schedule. The Articles of Incorporation committee asked for more time to prepare the documents. The House Committee was instructed to secure the club rooms and distribute keys. Meeting adjourned for one month.

Town Board Meeting In Regular Session At April Meeting

The Town Board met in regular session Tuesday night in the Commercial Club rooms with Trustees Lant Vanausdeln and Secrat present and President Rowe absent. Lant led the meeting, approving payments on contracts for the public building, approving bonds for the Garland Club Saloon and Stephan Bros, and authorizing payment of various bills. The Clerk was directed to draw a warrant for 550 in partial payment and the marshal tasked to issue a dog tax receipt book and receipts detailing payment date and description. The session adjourned until April 10. A local notice includes a testimonial for Chamberlain's Cough Remedy by Win Whos Lanorgen at Chapleau Ontario.
