Dallas County voters chose Ren Zane Holmes Jr. in the Texas Legislature Place 5 special election amid a large turnout. Holmes, a North Dallas Negro leader, won with about 11.2 percent of unofficial returns, replacing the late Rep Joe Lockridge killed in the Braniff airliner crash.

Police investigated a break in at a Garland Ave construction shack and a theft from a nearby car lot. A $300 four speed transmission was stolen from a 1965 Chevrolet at Myers Courtesy Ford. The incident at 525 E Garland Ave involved a burglarized construction shack and a $100 power saw missing.
