Brentwood Egg Company to build a 149900 plant near Oakland Street and the Safe Way Distribution Center in Garland. The Dallas division of Safeway Stores will employ about 727 workers, rising to 763 with the move. Don J. Stewart, plant manager, says the new facility will be the most modern egg processing plant in the United States and will be twice the size of the Dallas operation. Construction by Gower & Fulvem of Dallas has begun on a masonry building 200 by 190 feet.
Garland post office reports a 14.7 percent rise in postal receipts for the first five months of the year. May receipts reached 14 745 dollars, totaling 77 783 dollars so far, up from last year’s 63 045 dollars in the same period.
Intercontinental Manufacturing Company signs a long range contract to supply nose and front fuselage subassemblies for Chance Voughts Navy fighter. The Garland plant will fabricate and assemble parts as work starts, with Intercontinental already a subcontractor for Lockheed, Martin, and others.
The State Highway Commission announced a $157 million interstate work program for the coming year. It earmarks about $19.9 million for right of way and $147 million for construction.
