Consultants for the North Central Texas Regional Airport study a futuristic two mile terminal transit system named a people mover. It must handle peak hourly loads of 22 750 passengers in the 1970s and scale to 42 500 in 1985.
The North Texas Conference announced pastoral appointments affecting Garland churches. First Methodist Church sees Rev. Thomas P. Weaver and ensuing associate Jerry Ott assigned. Axe Memorial welcomes Rev. Marvin Bledsoe back. Harrell Hicks named associate minister. St. Pauls will install Rev. William Crouch replacing Dudley Dancer.
The U S Corps of Engineers Fort Worth district plans a study to map Duck Creek flood plains above and below Garland and Richardson. It aims to guide development controls and flood mitigation, aided by new county building permit legislation and the Texas Water Development Board request.
Janet Olinger sustained minor injuries as a car driven by Willie Scha fer Molden collided with a motorcycle driven by James Thomas Swafford at Fifth and Avenue F. Only slight vehicle damage was reported and no other injuries.
Absentee voting for the regional airport election ends Friday at 4 30 p m at the Records Building in downtown Dallas. With two days left 87 votes have been cast and a turnout near 30 000 voters is forecast for the June 6 airport authority election.
The Garland Chapter of the Order of DeMolay plans a 7:30 p.m. Friday June 2 officer installation at the Masonic Temple 125 State Street with a Representative DeMolay award program. Carey Carter and Wesley Cox receive honors. Past Master Councilor's Club performs the installation and awards. The public is invited.

Garland teachers Mel Barto and Delbert Collins will serve as National Park Service forest rangers at Grand Portage in the Great Lakes area this summer. Their families will accompany them in a 50-foot trailer with free rent while they aid visitors and provide information at the national monument, near the Duluth corridor and the Fort William Port Arthur area.
A new Goodwill Industries retail outlet opens Friday June 2 at 530 West Garland Avenue. Garland officials and business leaders attend a 9 a.m. grand opening ceremony. The remodeled store will employ seven disabled persons and offers employment training and work experience. Public invited to attend and view the facility with refreshments.
Friends of eight year old Debra Jean Parks raise funds for medical care at First National Bank. A three day garage sale at 1930 Cumberland Avenue will run all day except church hours Sunday to support the family as doctors weigh a possible multiple sclerosis diagnosis. Keith Parks, her brother, helps with the vigil at St Paul Hospital while Debra, once active in Kimberlin Elementary third grade, faces limited mobility and speech.
