A September 19 1918 letter from George E King at Camp Kearney Cal thanks the Garland Globe editor for Utah news. He notes the camp’s barrenness and fogs make him long for Utah atmosphere and that most Utah boys are doing well. The writer signs respectfully.
Special to the Globe describes Garland Junior High School's innovative military training under Ex-Instructor Mr. Ross. The program provides calisthenics and discipline to counter sedentary study, approved by army physical trainers, and aims to quicken progress and promotion should the boys be called to the front.
The Garland Mutual associations arrange a meeting at the ward chapel next Sunday evening, starting at 8 o clock. The event details emphasize a community gathering with a scheduled program and speaker lineup.
Last Friday in Salt Lake City the Utah Rifle team, led by captain Carl A. Badger, sent a telegram predicting a national title as they compete for National medals at Camp Perry Ohio. Members include Ora Lee R B Harkness R C Willey H C Sturges Benjamin William Fred Van Buren J W Tambert J W Arey H Betz C D Masters L A Stoughton F Blotter T G Marler and others. Daniels and Schneider returned home after a successful trip with the team amid 65 competing squads. Marines won first place and a Navy team was runner up.
Private Jimmy Simpson Jr of the 82nd Company United States Marines writes a birthday letter to his father thanking him for a strong body and lifelong guidance. A week later Simpson is killed in action, leaving a legacy of service and duty.
Dr Carl K Berg travels with wife and baby to Willard for his Kaiser duty starting October 7. He leaves Tuesday after building a good local practice and many friends. Mrs Berg will reside in Willard during his absence.
The Ladies Self Culture Club met at Mrs Dixie Shelton's home on South Main in 1918 with sixteen members present. Guests included Principal C E Smith of Garland School and numerous members from the community. Delegates were chosen to attend theFederated State Clubs convention in Logan in late October. Two free scholars will be awarded to eighth grade pupils. The meeting adjourned after refreshments and social hour with next gathering set for October 11, 1918.
Republican delegates nominated to attend the First District congressional convention in Salt Lake City on October 4. A joint reunion of the Leads, Shef Hand Hull conferences and the Mormon mission will be held at Morse ward Salt Lake on Saturday October 5. Program starts 8 30 with dancing and special guest the wounded British soldier from Fort Douglas. First PeRt reunion of British can oes in the history of the movement. The eighty-nineth semi annual general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will convene in the Tabernacle Salt Lake City on Friday October 4 at 10 00 a m with sessions also on October 5 and 6 A general priesthood meeting will convene in the Tabernacle on Saturday October 5 at 7 o'clock p m It is desired that arrangements for missionary reunions shall not conflict with any of the dates above announced and that such reunions as may be held on Saturday evening be fixed for an hour not earlier than 830 p m
The Ladies' Self-Culture Club hosts an apron bazaar and supper at Utah Power & Light Co. offices next Saturday October 28 at 3:00 p.m. A grand ball follows at the Palace with refreshments. all are invited.

Ernest Day brother of Dr J Edward Day of this city was electrocuted on Matin Center streets of Midvale while on a thirty five foot pole. He worked for Utah Power and Light Co and was 33. He left a wife a ten year old son his parents a sister and several brothers. Funeral services were held last Sunday at the Bountiful ward chapel.
