Community groups host speakers and club meetings in Garden City
Southwest Community Capt Craig Lurtz and Louise from the Salvation Army spoke at the Garden City Rotary Club on Wednesday about community programs and youth and family assistance. Rotary members discussed fundraising including bell ringing for Christmas and volunteering. Wauneta Messenger and Betty Zirkel hosted the September Sherlock Hustlers FCE meeting with all 10 members attending and sharing a Garden City or Finney County fact. Linda Beech urged healthier eating and half the plate as fruits and vegetables at the Finney County extension lesson. The next unit meeting is Oct 18 at Vivian Funk’s home. Wally Unruh won high in senior center pinochle with Ruth Romesburg second and Betty Schreibvogel third. The Garden City Duplicate Bridge Club held a Sept. 19 club championship with seven pairs and 22 suit games. Wen Wurst and Jon Craig led with 59 percent. Regular bridge games are Mon 7 p.m. and Tue 1:15 p.m. at the Senior Center. sanctioned games Sunday afternoons with call for partners.
