Oklahoma Wineries Benefit From New Direct-Sales Law
Oklahoma's wine industry grew from two to ten licensed wineries after voters passed a law in November allowing direct sales to liquor stores and restaurants. Stone Bluff Cellars near Tulsa produced 600 cases in its first year and plans 1,500 this year, selling mostly to winery visitors and now to statewide venues. General Manager Brendan McBratney says nearly all current production is sold.

California Regulators End Consumer Choice In Power
The California Public Utilities Commission voted to end the right of consumers to choose their electricity provider and approved a 12 percent rate increase for San Diego Gas and Electric residential customers. The decision aims to back bonds for a state power-buying rescue while critics warn it hurts consumers and undermines deregulation. Governor Davis and DWR officials cited a $12.5 billion bond issue to recoup $9.5 billion spent purchasing power for failing utilities.
