Garden City students win gold at national STAR event
Ashley Adams and Ellen Huschka of Garden City earned a gold medal in the applied technology STAR event at the 2007 National Leadership Meeting in Anaheim. They showcased a GCHS Family and Consumer Sciences Web site to promote FCCLA and FACS classes. Adams and Huschka are daughters of Ed and Corinne Adams and Bernard and Mary Huschka respectively. Remschner earned a nursing degree from KU while Daniel Quinonez, also a GCHS graduate, received a $500 Northwest Kansas Technical College scholarship for diesel technology.

Students Present Research On Oxygen Uptake Differences
Sammy Ornelas of Garden City presents research on oxygen uptake efficiency differences between sprinters and endurance athletes measured on a cycle ergometer. The work is part of Kansas State University’s Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program funded by the U S Department of Education to prepare talented undergraduates for graduate study and doctoral degrees. Ornelas is a senior in kinesiology and pre medicine, mentored by Thomas Barstow. Dusti Remschner of Garden City earns membership in the Honor Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau International through KU Delta Chapter in Kansas City Kansas, based on GPA and coursework.
