Stevens County optimism centers on Abengoa ethanol plant
Hugoton officials say Stevens County economic prospects improve with the $500 million Abengoa cellulosic ethanol plant. Construction starts next year, aims for 2011 completion, and will create 120 to 150 good paying jobs plus 500 temporary construction roles. The plant will produce 88 million gallons of ethanol and 13 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol annually using biomass and crops. It should boost local housing and restaurant activity and may lure young workers back after college.
