Lawmakers weight constitutional amendment on school funding power
In Topeka lawmakers debated a proposed amendment to curtail the Kansas Supreme Court's power to order education spending. Supporters led by Rep. Lance Kinzer argue to restore legislative balance by barring courts from mandating exact appropriations, while critics warn of unintended limits on judicial remedies and caution against overreach. House members noted past court reversals on funding formulas and urged careful consideration.
