Garden City bond plan to fund new high school
Finney County officials will hear a presentation from Garden City USD 457 Superintendent Rick Atha about a $97.5 million school bond on the November 4 ballot. If approved the plan funds a new 2,000‑student high school north of Mary Street, plus renovations converting the current high school to a middle school, Abe Hubert Middle to an elementary, and Garfield Elementary into a district wide early childhood center. The meeting also covers motor grader bids and a WIC program briefing. An International Collectors Roadshow will be at the Holiday Inn Express Tuesday through Sept 20, evaluating gold and antiques from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Kansas Arts Commission will honor arts contributors at a spring 2009 dinner, with nominations open to the public.
