Memorial marks 9 11 victims with national mourning
Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld led a somber Pentagon ceremony and a wreath laying at Arlington as Solicitor General Ted Olson urged continued unity against terrorism. In Pennsylvania a bell toll marked Flight 93’s crash near Shanksville. In New York families gathered at Ground Zero with flowers and banners while children read names and dignitaries offered readings. A vigil opened Wednesday night at St Paul’s Chapel and sunrise service near Ground Zero reflected on resilience and healing. Two beams of light to honor the towers were planned at sunset.
