Selig Denies Yankees Free Win Over Hurricane Delays
Assistant sports editor Joey Sprinkle argues MLB commissioner Bud Selig rightly rejected the New York Yankees demand for a forfeit victory when Tampa Bay Devil Rays could not reach a Monday doubleheader due to Hurricane Frances. The piece contrasts Yankees wealth and power with the families affected by the storm and recalls prior tampering debates. Sprinkle criticizes the Yankees as America’s Team while praising the commissioner’s common sense in denying a meaningless, money driven win.
