Fire chiefs’ closed meetings spark public access debate
Garden City commissioners canceled a planned Tuesday session of an improvement work team addressing firefighter conditions. City management justified closed meetings citing Kansas Open Meetings Act concerns, while five firefighters and a facilitator favored secrecy. A 25 minute closed session followed to discuss personnel issues, with no action taken and the improvement team scheduled to meet again later this month.
