Carter urged to press Park return in Korean influence case
Attorney General Griffin Bell asked President Carter to intervene with South Korea to obtain fugitive Tongsun Park for trial on a 36 count felony indictment charging conspiracy and corruption. The case details a scheme from 1967 to 1975 to bribe U.S. lawmakers to favor Korea and Park acted as a government agent while not registering as a foreign agent. Former Rep. Richard Hanna and two ex KCIA directors were named as unindicted co conspirators. Park disappeared from Washington as the scandal emerged and is currently in Seoul. The investigation continues with more possible indictments.
