The Postal Service will delay a 3 cent first class rate increase from 10 to 13 cents until after the Christmas rush. Postmaster General Bailor announced the postponement amid $200 million monthly deficits and said a permanent rate plan would be filed within two weeks to take effect after Christmas.
Kansas representative Kale Hineman, R Dighton, calls for changes to the assessment ratio sales study and the state school finance formula to slow aid losses in the 117th District. He cites high priced land sales and says urban and rural districts question the current study while state aid drops locally. The School Finance Committee will meet through fall to address realism in per pupil budgets and equalization aid law. Admiral McKee notes his potential historical place as superintendent during coeducation at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
