A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 29 for Joseph Jeffrey Rykiel 30 held on a 100000 bond in Barton County on charges including aggravated indecent liberties with a child aggravated endangerment of a child and criminal sodomy in connection with the July 4 death of 15 year old Jessica Shearer. Police say Shearer was found dead in a basement room rented by Rykiel from Great Bend residents Jackie McHolland and Mary Coker after she had been reported missing. Autopsy results have not been released. Rykiel was arrested July 5 after investigators questioned his conduct and remains jailed awaiting trial. Previous criminal history in several counties is noted.
