Gordon Holds On At Atlanta For 85th Career Win
Jeff Gordon edged Jimmie Johnson in the rain delayed AdvoCare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway to earn his 85th Cup win and move into third on the all time victories list. Gordon, 40, rode a resurging season with a new crew chief as Johnson closed in late, ultimately finishing 0.598 seconds back. Johnson leads the Chase standings with one win this year while Gordon eyes a fifth title as the playoff field expands after Richmond. Stewart finished third and clinched a Chase berth as six drivers already secured spots. The race, run Tuesday, marked just the second Cup event held on a Tuesday since 1978.
