Rain Deluge Gives Brief Drought Easing Hope
Kansas NWS notes heavy early rainfall across southwest Kansas with 10 to 20 inches on the rainfall map, but drought remains. Experts say the slow soaking rain helps soil moisture and growing crops, though more widespread rain is needed. Forecasters predict a cool spell mid month with limited additional moisture, while El Nino could bring warmer conditions and above normal precipitation later. Local signals show up to 15 inches near the Oklahoma border and scattered showers across the region through the next week.

Weak August jobs data tempers six month hiring run
Analysts call the 142,000 job gain in August a notable anomaly as the Labor Department reports a softer month. The unemployment rate dips to 6.1 percent while participation falls to 62.8 percent, with about 64,000 leaving the workforce. Economists say revisions and one time factors likely understate health, but broader strength remains.
