Thayer’s early stock lessons shape a future career

In 1981 thirteen year old Sean Thayer invested a thousand dollars from his country club earnings in Southern Company stock. By age eighteen the investment’s growth helped him buy a car and spark a lifelong interest in finance. He later studied finance at the University of Kansas and rose to vice president of investments at A.G. Edwards Inc. in Holcomb. He now manages accounts, trades stocks and bonds, and advises on retirement planning while monitoring a computer screen tracking major exchanges. Early investing is linked to stronger retirement income, financial pros say.
