Kansas lawmakers weigh federal tax cuts on state finances
Kansas analysts say the federal package will trim state revenues by about 122 million dollars by 2007 as new tax credits reduce taxable income. Sales tax effects are uncertain with refund checks of 300 to 600 dollars, and questions linger on estate tax phase out and possible state law alignment. Legislators expect a tight budget next year with little room for new tax hikes.
