Kansan recalls mission delivering Perry Flag for Japan surrender
McPherson resident John Bremger, denied color blindness waiver early in WWII, won a waiver and served on a Pacific destroyer. He later undertook a top secret 9,000 mile 124 hour flight to deliver the hand sewn Perry Flag aboard the USS Missouri for the Sept. 2 1945 Tokyo Bay surrender ceremony. The flag now hangs framed in his law office.
