Garden City district approves tax hike to fund 2015 16
Garden City USD 457 officials announced a 3.99 mill tax increase totaling 51.96 mills to fund the 2015 16 school year after emergency state aid and a new block grant funding formula reduced state support. The levy raise raises the typical home tax by about 45.89 dollars, with district leaders blaming the old equalization formula and state funding shifts. Primary local sources include CFO KJ Knoll and Superintendent Steve Karlin as the board laments reduced state aid and seeks to cover higher enrollment and lower property valuations through local taxes.
