Kansans grapple with race for governing majorities in state legislature
In Topeka critics warn the November elections may cement a conservative two party control. Brownback allies push for a two thirds Senate majority to ease constitutional changes while Democrats challenge the tax cuts and forecast budget gaps. Senate races center in northeast Kansas with incumbents Holland and Kelly facing tough GOP challenges. The tax cuts, worth over 4.5 billion in six years, are debated against projected 2.5 billion in six years of budget shortfalls. Democrats maintain opposition to erosions of spending and court appointment powers.
