County approves cash incentive for Kanamak Hydraulics expansion

Finney County Commission in a special meeting approved a $50,000 cash incentive from a joint city county economic development fund to help Kanamak Hydraulics install a fire suppression system for a 9 500 square foot expansion. Ken Madgwick said the project will add manufacturing space and storage, with eight more hires planned. The company, a long time hydraulic parts supplier and oil field equipment maker, sought a tax abatement but opted for the upfront incentive due to time sensitivity and production schedule penalties.

Aqueduct cost would eclipse state debt and end a dream

The proposed Ulysses canal from the Missouri to a future Utica reservoir faces a price tag near 70 billion dollars for four 19 foot pipes, with a 360 mile concrete line at about 25 billion. That 25 billion would exceed Kansas 22.5 billion total debt, including cities counties schools and hospitals. Mark Rude backs the project but questions water volume and cost sharing. Utica resident Jeff Johnson opposes, having just seen a map of a terminal site.
