Conte to Spend Four Months in Jail in BALCO Case
Conte pleaded guilty to money laundering and steroid distribution with dozens of counts dropped. Anderson and Conte, free on bond, must surrender December 1. Judge Illston approved the plea deals, endorsing prison time for Conte but not for Anderson. U.S. Attorney Ryan said weak steroid laws and non banned chemicals shaped the case, while noting broader fallout and inquiry into illegal performance enhancers. Track coach Remi Korchemny is expected to receive probation later. Immunity granted to about two dozen athletes, who were not targets of the probe.
