In a post-shutdown address President Obama blamed Republicans for a 16 day closure that he said endangered U S credibility and emboldened enemies. Returning workers and parks reopened while post shutdown deficits and taxes dominated Capitol talks.
USD 457 appointed Garden City High School associate principal Phil Keidel as interim transportation director effective Sept. 26 after former director Michelle Irsik resigned Sept. 6. Superintendent Rick Atha said the move fills a critical vacancy and will last through year’s end to gauge fit and leadership.
In Topeka the all Republican Kansas delegation split on a budget bill to raise the debt ceiling and end the partial government shutdown. Sen Moran and Rep Jenkins supported the measure while Sen Roberts and Reps Huelskamp Pompeo and Yoder opposed citing no delay to the health care overhaul and stalled negotiations. The move places Moran and Jenkins with leadership. Roberts faces a tough 2014 GOP primary.
