Halloween at the YMCA to be held October 27

The Garden City Family YMCA will host the 12th Annual Halloween at the YMCA from 7 to 9 p.m. on October 27. KU to build two new residence halls in Lawrence

The University of Kansas plans two freshman oriented five story residence halls to replace McCollum Hall. The $47.8 million project approved by the Kansas Board of Regents targets a 2015 move in with construction starting January 2014 on Daisy Hill near 15th and Iowa streets.

Kansas Education Department to Move to Topeka Office

The Kansas State Department of Education will relocate in 2014 to the London State Office Building east of the Statehouse in Topeka after deciding to move into a state-owned space rather than renew the Scott Building lease. The current lease, about 640000 dollars annually since the 1960s, would have expired this year as the department has outgrown its downtown Topeka site.

Scott County schools win $10,000 hydroponics grant

Scott County School District will install a hydroponics lab after winning a $10,000 grant from America's Farmers Grow Rural Education. The Monsanto Fund backs the program which funds math and science education in rural districts. a 2.3 million overall investment supports rural education nationwide.
