Kansas Governor Brownback Seeks Growth Through Tax Cuts
Governor Brownback argues Kansas is poised for growth driven by a sweeping income tax cut and reinstated sales tax measure. He privatized Medicaid, rejected a federal health exchange grant, and boosted pensions while facing court and legislature clashes over school funding and arts funding cuts. The lifelong politician touts a balanced budget, rural revival efforts, and a cautious presidential bid. The record is mixed with surging surplus tied to tax cuts and education spending declines and critics warn of future cuts if growth stalls.
