Land and Sky Scenic Byway opens in Kansas region
The Land and Sky Scenic Byway linking Wallace through Cheyenne counties was dedicated with a ribbon cutting on the Highway 27 overpass in Goodland. About 100 guests attended two days of events from Fort Wallace Museum to Mount Sunflower, celebrating tourism potential and regional visibility.

Pumpkin painting contest draws families in Garden City
Aylen Oreeaga and siblings joined 200 children in Garden City Downtown Vision and Garden City Arts Center pumpkin painting during October First Friday. Kids ages 4 to 11 competed in three groups with prizes including two Mitchell Theaters tickets and a downtown gift certificate. The Great Downtown Pumpkin Hunt offered store scavenger prizes and a $95 gift certificate for completing all pumpkins.

Winn seeks grand jury to probe Brownback and DCF chief
Jennifer Winn, a 2014 Republican primary rival to Gov. Sam Brownback, plans to gather signatures in Sedgwick County to convene a grand jury investigating Brownback and DCF Secretary Phyllis Gilmore over alleged unlawful removal of children. Four Kansas firefighters to be honored at national memorial
Roundup brief notes Kansas firefighter Ronnie W. Peek among four from the state to be memorialized at the 35th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland this weekend. Peek died in January nineteen ninety five at age forty nine after SCBA incident. The service honors seventy nine firefighters who died in 2015 and thirty three from prior years with names added to the academy grounds memorial. Local chiefs and honor guard members will attend and the event will be broadcast live online.
