Courtroom upgrades boost lighting, security and tech

Administrator Kurtis Jacobs Pierce highlighted a facelift at the SEC courtroom serving about 5 000 yearly visitors. The upgrade includes LED lighting, carpet, intercoms, new landline phones, two extra spaces, video conferencing to Finney County Jail, automatic time locks, and wider access for the judge and recorder. Local firms did most work, cost 35 000 dollars funded by renovation leftovers and the BMRP tax fund. County Commissioner William Clifford praised the improvements saying it felt brand new and will pay for itself in about three and a half years through efficiency gains.

Hearing set for Best Western tax abatement in Garden City

Finney County commissioners vote 3 to 1 to schedule an October 19 hearing on a 10 year Best Western tax abatement with construction period exclusion. Lena DuVall says a cost benefit analysis by bond counsel will also determine abated taxes by each entity including Garden City, Finney County, USD 457 and Garden City Community College.
