Birth of twelfth bison calf surprises zoo staff
Lee Richardson Zoo reports the birth of its 12th bison calf, a healthy female, at about 9:45 am on Tuesday. The dam, a 3-year-old cow born in 1982, has previously given birth yearly from 1987 to 1996 and again in 1999, with a surprise delivery in 2000. The staff note the calf is nursing and able to keep up with the herd, now housed in a large North American Plains enclosure with elk nearby.
