As flu season begins area health officials push tactics to curb influenza and H1N1 spread in Kansas. St. Catherine Hospital began restricting visitation for certain individuals on Thursday to protect the public from the communicable disease.
Hospitals across the nation limit visitors to protect ill patients and reduce flu transmission. At St Catherine, policy bans visitors under 12 and restricts access to essential support for emotional well being, as advised by the CDC. Dr Michael Shull of Siena Medical Clinic notes the measures both shield patients and curb infection risk.
City officials will consider a rezoning ordinance Tuesday that would change 703 N Third St from R-2 single family to R-3 multiple family use adjacent to Community Congregational Church and near St Catherine Hospital utility plant. Developer Gary Whitehurst seeks to allow apartments townhouses or duplexes amid a single family neighborhood, drawing local resident opposition led by Sharise Lee.
