Nighttime dementia camp gives caregivers much needed rest
In a Bronx Hebrew Home program called ElderServe at Night, elderly dementia patients stay awake until dawn with singalongs crafts and therapy while their caregivers gain uninterrupted sleep. Initiated in 1998 to address caregiver sleep deprivation the overnight care is costly but largely Medicaid funded at 140 dollars per patient per night plus 74 dollars for transport.

Shootings expose cracks in U S mental health system
In Minneapolis a man with suspected mental illness killed a sign company owner, several employees, and a UPS driver before taking his own life. His parents sought treatment support for two years but Minnesota law requires proof of threat to force treatment, a barrier echoed by officials and specialists who warn of rising incidents and the need for better intervention.
