Kansan plan to curb eminent domain after Supreme Court ruling
Bipartisan measures backed by Kansas lawmakers and farm groups seek to curb private land seizures for economic development after a June Supreme Court decision. The proposal flatly limits takings to public use and requires homes or occupied properties be abandoned or unsafe before government acquisition. The plan also considers a constitutional amendment to reinforce property rights, with passage needing two thirds of the Legislature and statewide ratification. Legal advocates call Kansas a relative offender on eminent domain.
