Zoo welcomes newborn pygmy slow loris at Lee Richardson
Lee Richardson Zoo reports the birth of a pygmy slow loris infant observed clinging to its mother on Oct 22, the fourth offspring for this pair. The zoo notes the mother’s strong maternal instincts and that the baby, about 3 inches long, will have its gender determined later. The zoo also mourns Laurie the 25 year old male lion tailed macaque who died Nov 3 during veterinary care. The macaque species is endangered, native to southwest India, and threatened by habitat loss. The loris can be seen in the nocturnal Wild Asia exhibit during open hours.
