Six die as Black Hawk crashes in Tikrit Iraq
An Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed near Saddam Hussein's palace in Tikrit, killing all six aboard. The incident followed another seven days of heavy U.S. losses in Iraq, with two more soldiers killed near Mosul. The crash raised concerns over insurgent air defenses, as U.S. jets bombed the site and helicopters searched the wreckage. The week’s death toll reached 32 Americans, including civilians and contractors, amid a broader campaign turning wary of international troop deployments. Turkey’s parliament moved to permit Turkish troops, drawing Iraqi opposition.
