Callen Makes Kansas Rowing a Big 12 Calling
KU rower Callen competes at a regatta in Iowa City and at the Sunflower Showdown before KU football game. The Jayhawks, ranked in recent years, pause racing for winter training in Austin, Texas, with possible spring stops in Camden New Jersey and Cincinnati. Saturday practices at 6 a.m. on the Kansas River or Clinton Lake mean chilly mornings, but Callen values intercollegiate athletics and the high level pursuit.

Texas Baseball Probed as NCAA Probation Issued
Texas baseball was placed on two years of probation by the NCAA for illegal job benefits given to former volunteer assistant Richard Couch. Couch held a $40,000-a-year marketing post at a beer distributorship owned by ex-regent Lowell Lebermann but did little or no work, instead spending time on team activities including recruiting. The case centers on volunteer coaches being paid without performing duties, violating standards of honesty.
