Kansas Gubernatorial candidate Morrison stopped in Garden City for an hour long rally, greeting about 25 residents. He touted reform of the prison system and said mentally ill inmates are the biggest issue in criminal justice, while supporting SB 123 for treatment of non violent offenders alongside harsher actions against drug manufacturing.
Michael Peterson, six, stayed close to his father Curtis at a chili feed fundraiser for the Pass It On program. The boy showed a pheasant feather and said his favorite part of hunting is going with his dad, continuing the Peterson tradition of visiting Dighton for See Hunt activities.
In Baghdad a strict curfew eased as residents walked streets again while Shiites celebrated the verdict in Saddam Hussein's trial and Sunnis held defiant protests. Authorities credited the curfew and border checkpoints with preventing post verdict violence, as restrictions were gradually lifted.
Eva Krug, a longtime Garden City educator with 20 years in the district, remains involved in the local school system. She served as substitute, algebra, general science and junior college science teacher, working under notable educators such as Abe Hubert and gaining lasting experience.
Neighbors in Finney County note Krug, a longtime Community College teacher, continues to teach through storytelling at the Senior Center. She rides a stationary bike daily, a gift from her children, and recalls her teaching career with residents, saying she knew she wanted to teach before high school.
