Garden City High School drama department presents Hello Dolly at Clifford Hope Auditorium on November 14, 16 and 17. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. on the 14th and 16th and 2:30 p.m. on the 17th. Tickets cost 5 dollars for adults and 3 dollars for students.
A Hunters breakfast benefiting Greeley County groups is set for 4 to 10 a.m. MST Saturday at the 4-H Building two blocks west of Kansas Highway 27 on Tribune’s north edge. The Greeley County Volunteer Fire Department will serve biscuits and gravy pancakes sausage eggs coffee and orange juice. All area and out of state hunters and the public are invited. Free will donations go to several local organizations.
Garden City school district hosts Health Awareness Week with activities for students and staff. Wednesday features Principal Walks Line Dancing and PE challenges. Thursday includes staff Healthy Eating Cook-offs and Fat Tubes demonstrations by Finney County Extension. Milk moustaches promote dairy intake. Friday highlights Safety and Family Health Day with a rollover demo by Kansas Highway Patrol seat belt safety at Abe Hubert Middle School. Fire Department smoke house visits Buffalo Jones and Victor Ornel elementary schools. Pierceville Plymell students explore farm safety.
The Garden City Area American Red Cross will host a Community CPR First Aid class starting 8 30 a m Saturday at 210 Fulton Terrace. Pre enrollment is required. The fee is 40 dollars. For more information call 276 2762.
The Wichita Children's Theatre Touring Company will perform four free shows at Satanta High School auditorium sponsored by the Satanta Arts Council. "Jack and the Beanstalk" runs 9:25 a.m. and 1:25 p.m. Wednesday and 9:25 a.m. Thursday for pre schoolers to fifth graders, with "The Hobbit" by J R R Tolkien at 1:25 p.m. Thursday for fourth grade and up.
A Garden City area obituary honors Alvin Komlofske 75 who died of heart problems. A devoted Knights of Columbus member and community volunteer, he built a life around charity, mentoring others, and helping immigrants. His widow Dorothy shares memories of a man who never met a stranger and a family legacy of Volga German heritage.
Finney County commissioners approved raising pay for election workers from 5.25 to 6.00 per hour, costing about 9 100 for poll workers on election day. Clerk Carol Brown supported 5.50 but welcomed the higher rate. The panel also reviewed a health department billing program and delayed a sewer district policy effective date, plus approved rezoning 202 Sharecropper Road from agricultural to residential.
