Washington reports a 35 percent speedup in B52 bomber production drawing praise from Senate critics. Secretary Talbot said the decision was made days earlier and will affect Boeing plants in Seattle and Wichita. The B52, developed since 1948, began production in 1954 with first aircraft to join a heavy bomber wing at Castle AFB next month. The aircraft can exceed 600 miles per hour and fly over 6,000 miles without refueling.
Paris France reports that France moves one division from West Germany to Algeria to fight a spreading rebellion in North Africa. Premier Edgar Faure announced the plan at a press conference and said he has informed Gen. Alfred M Gruenther, the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, awaiting approval. France reportedly has two small and three regular divisions in Germany.
