Post offices in Garden City and Holcomb close Monday for Memorial Day along with city, county and court offices, libraries, colleges, health centers, and several banks. The Telegram will not publish Monday and resumes Tuesday.

The youth of First Southern Baptist Church will hold a rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2708 N Third St. Proceeds support the youth mission trip to Oberlin.
Holcomb residents voiced frustration over fluctuating water pressure during a council meeting as work on the Barber standpipe aims to extend storage. City officials blamed miscommunication about notifications while engineers explained valves were briefly closed during maintenance. Completion is targeted before early June with Gerard Tank & Steel handling the standpipe project costing $188,432.
Finney County officials discuss open burning rules with Fire Chief Allen Shelton and Undersheriff John Andrews. State provisions prohibit burning without authorization, with fines up to 2000 dollars for large emissions or unauthorized burns. Sheriff’s office and fire department monitor burns, which are illegal in city limits but allowed in the county with permits.
Garden City's Big Pool opens Saturday at 1 pm in Finnup Park with 1 to 7 pm weekend hours and 1 to 6 pm weekday runs.
