Garden City Task Force forms to fight domestic violence
A 1980 effort in Garden City brings together professionals and volunteers as The Task Force on Domestic Violence to expand help for abuse victims. A December workshop drew 75 people from eight communities, with law enforcement, social workers, and counselors in attendance. Hale of Kansas Rural Legal Services presented survey data from 27 people across 18 agencies showing over 490 abused women seen by local services in a year and about 627 suspected abuse cases. The group seeks a crisis line and women’s crisis center, plus better documentation and coordinated resources with Great Bend’s Family Crisis Center. Monthly meetings are open to Finney County residents at Catholic Social Services.
