Click It or Ticket campaign expands belt law in Kansas
Kansas launches a safety drive with a warning period from July 1 to December 31 for drivers with passengers ages 14 to 17 not buckled. Violations after the warning period carry a $60 fine. The campaign, backed by KDOT funding of 3.2 million annually, aims to reduce deaths and injuries by increasing seat belt use among adults and children. Local sheriffs in Haskell Stevens and Wichita counties join, with deputies patrolling Memorial Day weekend.

Area wheat tour highlights varieties and risks for producers
Olson notes no variety is perfect for all conditions as producers weigh fungicide costs and weather. The Kansas State Extension tour drew 20 to 30 attendees and showcased triticale as a graze-out crop, with Ehmke Seed promoting disease resistant forage. Shapland, visiting for 30 years, sees 40 to 50 bu acre potential this year after years of 15 to 20, despite Easter freeze damage. Kansas stats show 88% headed wheat, 71% fair or better, and varying damage from freezes. Ehmkes say seven years of tours boost producer education and potential yields amid dry, volatile cycles.
