City Reframes Police Coverage As Timetable Cuts Considered
Allen outlined a reform proposal to reimburse airport security costs under a new formula requiring a single police officer to be on site about five hours per day rather than nine. The change would still ensure an officer present for every flight while reducing pre and post flight duties. The old TSA reimbursements totaled roughly 177000 annually, with the city retaining about 118000 per contract terms ending May 31. Fire Chief Allen Shelton and EMS Director Bob Prewitt will report on response-time factors. Shelton described under-funding and understaffing as a concern at the May planning retreat, drawing limited reaction from City Manager Bob Halloran.
