Escapee Langford Gets Six-Year Prison Term
Charles Emery Langford, 33, a former Bonner Springs resident, was sentenced to six years by U S District Judge Arthur J Mellatt after pleading guilty to two counts of transporting stolen cars and one count of escaping. Langford had already begun a five year sentence for the earlier transport case. He escaped from Leavenworth County jail on November 17, 1953, then from Clinton County Missouri jail on February 8, 1954, and from Peoria Illinois jail on June 21 with aid from his 15 year old wife.

New York report by Dr Hart E Van Riper, medical director of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, notes 19 polio cases among 4 534 000 vaccinated children this year excluding one company vaccine. Last year 34 paralytic cases occurred among 440 000 vaccinated between May 1 and four weeks after the final shot.
