Years grasp at Windsor hotel marks century of decline
Garden City’s Windsor Hotel once a grand 1880s centerpiece on Main Street faced losing its last business as Garland Furniture announced closing for July 31. Built 1887 by buffalo hunter John Stevens, the four story 125 room hostelry with an opera house faced years of decay after a 1976 fire marshal ruling. The Windsor on the National Register since 1972 remains under the Garnand family as owners while plans for its future remain uncertain.
