State approves tax incentive for BNSF freight hub
The Kansas Legislature passed a tax incentive up to 35 million for BNSF to speed a 750 million Edgerton freight hub project in southwestern Johnson County. Construction is to start this year, with a 1,000 acre development including a 500 acre yard and warehousing to move goods between trucks and trains. The plan diverts sales tax on utilities to a grant fund payable by 2045. Environmental groups challenged a federal permit, while Gov. Parkinson calls it vital to Kansas transportation and job growth.
